How to write a local job ad that gets good applicants

· 1 min read · getme team

The best job ads are short and specific.

The structure

  • Title: what the job is, in plain words ("Casual café all-rounder").
  • Where: suburb, and whether travel is required.
  • When: hours, days, start date.
  • Pay: a rate or range. Ads with pay usually get more serious applicants.
  • What you need: must-haves only (licences, experience).
  • How to apply: what to include in the message.

Pay at least the relevant award minimum for employees, and avoid discriminatory requirements. The Fair Work Ombudsman has guidance.
