How to write a great dating profile (with examples)

· 2 min read · getme team

A great profile doesn’t make you look perfect. It makes it easy for the right people to recognise they’d get along with you, and gives them something to say. Here’s how.

Photos: show, don’t pose

  • Lead with a clear, recent photo of just you. Good light, face visible, no sunglasses.
  • Add variety. A full-length photo, one doing something you love, and one with friends (where it’s obvious which one is you).
  • Skip the heavy filters. Looking like your photos makes the first date much easier.
  • Three to six photos is the sweet spot. getme allows up to six.

Bio: specific beats generic

“I love travel, food and having fun” describes almost everyone. Specific details give people something to respond to.

Instead of: “I love food.” Try: “On a mission to find Brisbane’s best laksa. Current leader: a tiny place in Sunnybank.”

Instead of: “I’m adventurous.” Try: “Just did my first overnight hike in the Grampians and I’m already planning the next one.”

Keep it short: two to four sentences is plenty. Be warm, a bit playful, and honest about what you’re looking for.

Prompts: answer like you’re talking

Prompts are where conversations start. On getme, people can like or comment on a specific prompt, so give them something to grab onto.

  • Be specific: “A perfect Sunday looks like… the Salamanca market, a long lunch and a nap I won’t apologise for.”
  • Leave a hook: “Two truths and a lie: I’ve met a koala, I can juggle, I’ve never seen Titanic.”
  • Show your values: “Green flags I look for: kindness to waiters and texting back.”

Be clear about what you want

Whether it’s dating, friends or a chat, say so. getme lets you choose, and being upfront means you’ll match with people who want the same thing.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Listing what you don’t want. Negativity is off-putting.
  • Group photos only.
  • An empty bio.
  • Out-of-date photos.
  • Copy-paste clichés like “partner in crime”.

Get verified

A verified badge tells people you’re real. On getme you take a quick selfie and a real person checks it against your photos.
