Meet people, safely
Practical tips, how our moderation works, and where to get help in Australia.
If you’re in danger
Dating safety tips
- Keep chats on getme until you trust someone; don’t share your address, workplace or finances early.
- Video call before you meet if you can.
- Trust your gut: you can unmatch or block at any time.
Scam awareness
Romance scammers build trust quickly, avoid video calls and eventually ask for money, gift cards, crypto or “investment” help. Never send money to someone you haven’t met.
Learn the warning signs at ACCC Scamwatch, and report scams there too.
Meeting safely
- Meet somewhere public and busy, and get there under your own steam.
- Tell a friend where you’re going and who with.
- Stay in control of your drink and leave whenever you want.
Reporting and blocking
Every profile, chat and post has a Report and Block option in its ⋯ menu. Blocking hides you from each other straight away. Reports are confidential.
How moderation works
Reports go to a moderation queue reviewed by our team. We can remove content, remove media, suspend or ban accounts, and we keep an audit log of admin actions. Serious threats are referred to police. You can also contact the eSafety Commissioner.
18+ policy
getme is for adults only. Accounts we reasonably believe belong to someone under 18 are removed.
Privacy controls and your data
In Settings you can hide your active status, pause discovery, control message requests, turn personalisation off, and download or delete your data. We handle personal information under the Australian Privacy Principles; read our Privacy Policy and how we keep data secure.
Safety questions
What does “verified” mean on getme?
A badge only appears for checks that were actually completed: email confirmed, phone confirmed, or a photo verification reviewed by our team. Worker licence and ABN badges appear only after an admin has checked them. Verification lowers risk but never replaces your own judgement.
How do I report or block someone?
Open the ⋯ menu on any profile, chat or post and choose Report or Block. Blocking is immediate and the other person is not told. Reports go to our moderation queue.
Is getme 18+?
Yes. You must be 18 or older to join. We ask for your date of birth at sign-up and remove accounts we believe belong to minors.
Someone asked me for money. What should I do?
Stop replying, do not send money, gift cards or crypto, report the profile, and report it to Scamwatch (scamwatch.gov.au). If you have already paid, contact your bank straight away.
