How to price your services as a sole trader

· 1 min read · getme team

Your rate needs to cover more than your time.

Start with your costs

Add up tools, fuel, insurance, phone, software and any licences. Divide by the hours you realistically bill each year (not every hour you work).

Remember tax and super

As a sole trader, nobody is setting aside tax or super for you. Many people put a fixed percentage of every payment into a separate account.

GST

You must register for GST once your GST turnover is $75,000 or more a year (rules differ for taxi and rideshare). The ATO has the details.

Check the local market

See estimated rates for your city, then position yourself by experience and reliability, not just price.

Be clear in quotes

List what's included, call-out fees and how variations are charged. It prevents disputes and earns better reviews.

Frequently asked questions

Should I show prices on my profile?

A “from” price or typical range helps people decide faster and reduces time-wasting enquiries.
