How to hire a good cleaner in Australia (and what to ask)

· 1 min read · getme team

A good cleaner is worth their weight in gold. The trick is being clear about what you need and checking a few basics before they start.

Decide what you actually need

A regular clean (weekly or fortnightly) is different from a deep clean or an end-of-lease clean. List the rooms, the tasks (ovens, windows, inside cupboards) and whether you supply products.

Questions to ask

  • Do you have public liability insurance?
  • Do you bring your own products and equipment?
  • How long will it take, and is it a fixed price or hourly?
  • What happens if you can't make it?
  • Are you happy with pets in the house?

What it costs

Prices vary by city, the size of the home and the job. Our service price guide has labelled estimates for each city, for example Sydney and Melbourne.

Do cleaners need a licence in Australia?

General house cleaning doesn’t usually need a licence, but insurance is strongly recommended. Ask for proof.
